Myanmar: Visa Beantragung, auch online & on arrival

Derzeit scheinen sich die Dinge in Myanmar rasend schnell zu ändern, seit 1.6.2012 gibt es jetzt wieder das Visa-on-arrival (E-Visa).

Das ist nur halbrichtig!

Das seit 1.6.2012 erhältliche Visa on Arrival als Transit Visum gilt nur für 24Std Aufenthalt in Myanmar und nicht für Touristen im Allgemeinen!

- Transit Visa,
- Business Visa und
- Entry Visa for meetings, workshops & events

The electronic visa application for Burma/Myanmar on arrival did not work [for tourist visa].

Here is what happened to me, everyone be warned to apply for a visa at this site: https://www.myanmarevisa.gov.mm/

- Applied for a tourist visa Nov 2012 through the internet (https://www.myanmarevisa.gov.mm/)
- Filled the form and got an email answer back with all my details plus the request for a copy of my passport.
- replied and attached copy of passport
- received email confirming the receipt and requested to pay the visa fees of SGD 93.45 (€61.64)
- paid via payPal, got confirmation few days later. Requested my approximately itinerary, Flight number etc.
- Sent itinerary and named some places
- I asked for a hotel in Rangoon, but the price that the person (Mr.Lin) offered was 30% higher than price in the internet.
- So I made my own booking and paid for the hotel in advance.

- I assumed that everything is ok now and I will get my visa at the arrival at the Rangun airport. I copied all the email correspondence.

With hindsight I must say that I should have requested the full letterhead of the organization, the address of the organization, the position of my Mr. Lin in the organization and their local phone number.

The first problem came at the Frankfurt airport. Thai Airways were not willing to give me a boarding pass for Rangun as I had no visa stamped in my passport. I convinced them that they may not know about the new visas on arrival
The same trouble at the Bangkok airport. The Thai airways staff contacted their Rangoon counterparts, but with no results. I could fly to Rangoon only after signing a document that I would pay for a return flight if I could not immigrate.

At the airport in Rangoon was a counter for visa on arrival but only for Business Visa. Nothing for tourists. Immigration did not allow me to enter Myanmar. All my email correspondence was not considered.
I protested and contacted the head person in charge of immigration - at that moment an officer with a nice white uniform and 3 stripes named Soe Win Maung. He repeated that the only job of them is to check the visas stamped in the passports. They have nothing to do with those people who are supposed to provide the visa. Asking him to help and contact these people he suggested that I fly back to Bangkok and call them from there.

I was then waiting in the transit room, had a police man assigned to watch me and finished my short - and only - trip to Burma, flying back to B angkok 3 hours later.

I'm travelling a lot but a comparable stubbornness of the authorities I remember only from the former Soviet Union in the early 1980s.
I think that the current political regime of Myanmar is not interested in tourism at all, every person avoided to visit their country is a success to support the isolation of people who deserve better.
Needless to say I spent happily my time and money in V ietnam.

Der englische Reisebericht, bei dem die eVisa-Beantragung fehl schlug bestätigt auch das oben von Sedar und auf der Seite der Myanmar Botschaft in Berlin ( Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Berlin ) Geschriebene:

Visa on arrival (VOA) für Myanmar werden derzeit nicht für Touristen ausgestellt.

Er ist weiterhin ein Beispiel dafür, dass die Myanmar-Preisangaben im Internet kaum noch mit ihrer rasanten Entwicklung im Realleben Schritt halten, vgl.

In den allgemeinen Reiseinformationen des AA (Stand 25.04.2013) heißt es, dass Ein- und Ausreisen nach Myanmar (Burma, Birm) auf dem Landweg besondere Reisegenehmigungen erfordern (aber offenbar nicht mehr grundsätzlich ausgeschlossen sind). Allerdings muss die Ausreise über den gleichen Grenzübergang wie die Einreise erfolgen. Auch davon sind offenbar Ausnahmen möglich, wenn eine staatliche Genehmigung dazu erteilt wurde (14 Tage zuvor zu beantragen). Hat jemand Erfahrung, wie es damit in der Praxis aussieht?

Gehe ich richtig davon aus, dass sich seit den letzten Posts nicht viel geändert hat?

Nicht das ich das waghalsige Spiel mit Hope-for-Visa-On-Arrival-after-pre-online-"booking" riskieren möchte, aber mal rein des Updates wegens gefragt. Falls wer was zu berichten hat.

Diese Website bietet einem demnach falsche Informationen: w w w PUNKT myanmarvisa PUNKT com/visaprocedure PUNKT htm bzw. klärt nicht ausreichend auf, dass es nur für Business-Visa möglich ist?! nun gut, eine falsche Deklaration über den Reisegrund spart man sich besser eh...

Ab 01.Sep. können Touristen das Visum auch online beantragen.

""Touristen können in der Zukunft Visa für Reisen nach Myanmar online beantragen. Das asiatische Land will den neuen Service vom 1. September an offerieren.
